Helen Still Beeson

Mrs. Helen Still Beeson, 83, 2101 Christian Lane, Johnson City, passed away Saturday September 5, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Beeson was a native of Appalachia, Virginia and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Frank B. Still and Ida Mae Bolling Still. She was a graduate of Science Hill High School. She received her BA and MA degrees from East Tennessee State University. She was a teacher at Palatka, Florida, Charleston, South Carolina, King Springs Elementary and North Jr. High School. Mrs. Beeson was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City for sixty-eight years. She was a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Women of the Church, member of the Chancel Choir and also worked with the youth. Mrs. Beeson was also a member of PEO and the Merry Wives. Survivors include: her husband of fifty-eight years, D.R. 'Dick'? Beeson, Jr. of the home, one son, D.R. 'Rick'? Beeson III of Johnson City, one daughter, Ann Caroline Bean and her husband David of Lakeland, Florida; one brother, Frank B. Still, Jr. and his wife Jane of Naples, Florida; two sisters, Mildred Umberger and her husband John of Kingsport and Nella Mae Barlow and her husband Stanley of Leonia, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Lyn Bedsaul and her husband Kris of Asheville, North Carolina, Valda Hathaway and her husband John of Johnson City, Barrett Beeson of Charleston, South Carolina, Caroline Kaylor and her husband Blake of Knoxville, Carrie Bean of Miami Beach, Florida and Katie Bean of Lexington, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Paige Helen Bedsaul, Claire Bedsaul both of Asheville, North Carolina, Carter Kaylor of Knoxville and Lula Hathaway of Johnson City. A special thank you to the nursing staff of the 6300 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center. A private interment service for Mrs. Helen Still Beeson will be conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Louis Imsande will officiate. Active pallbearers will be: David Ellison, David Bean, Kris Bedsaul, Blake Kaylor, John Hathaway, Barrett Beeson and Brent Terry. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. Rev. Louis Imsande will officiate. The family will greet friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
