Henry Craven, Jr., 83, of Johnson City, formerly of Orangeburg, SC, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a native of Orangeburg, SC, son of the late Keegan and Thelma L. Croft Craven. Henry was a veteran of three wars; WWII, Korea and Vietnam and served his country in both the U. S. Navy and the Air Force for over 21 years. He was a retired electrical superintendent in the industrial construction industry and had done the communications wiring on the Lunar Module that landed on the moon. Henry was a member of the St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Clifton Craven; two brothers and a sister. Survivors include: his wife of over fifty years, Earnestene Lendermon Craven of the home; three sons, Victor Craven of FL, Michael Henry Craven of TX and John Dulin Craven of MI; four daughters, Annette Barker of WV, Kathleen Yarborough of Johnson City, TN, Pamala Craven of Columbia, SC and Tena Jean Bates of Johnson City, TN; a brother, Norman Keegan Craven of Orangeburg, SC; a sister, Reva Dell Cook of Utah; eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 21, 2012 at 12:3 pm in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. Wayne Reeves of South Carolina. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A committal service will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery following the funeral service. The Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
