Herbert W. Haynes, 88, also known as 'The Charles Chips Man'? passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born May 28, 1920 in Bristol, TN to the late John Henry and Ottie Mae Hanshew Haynes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and J. H. Haynes and a sister, Gladys Easter. Herbert was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Army. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and earned three Bronze Stars. He was owner and operator of the Charles Chips Distributorship in Johnson City, Bristol and Kingsport. Herbert was a member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Johnson City Civitan Club, on the administration Board, in the Chancel Choir and the Barber Shoppers Chorus. Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Ruth Crockett Haynes of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Anne Haynes of Bristol, Bill and Lynn Haynes of Gray; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Wally Beagle of Roanoke, VA; a twin brother, Hubert J. Haynes of Shelby, NC; seven grandchildren, Chad Beagle, Mark Beagle, Beth Haynes, David Haynes, Andrea Boroughs, Meredith and Alison Haynes; nine great grandchildren, Blake Haynes, David Derrick, Zach Boroughs, Jasmine and Atlanta Haynes, Jackson Beagle, Madisyn, Kelsie and Ethan Boroughs; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Johnson City Medical Center, Northside and Life Care Center of Gray. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of Minister Michael Lester and Rev. Reece Harris. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted in the Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, TN following the funeral service, with military honors provided by the Kingsport VFW #3382 and the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be: Chad Beagle, Mark Beagle, Larry Kuhnert, Ron Haynes, Larry Taylor and Wally Beagle; honorary pallbearers will be: Bob Webster, Perry Counts and the Pine Oaks Golf Course Staff.
