Ms. Hildred Wexler Wolfe, age 93, of Piney Flats, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, in the Colonial Hill Retirement Center. Ms. Wolfe was a native of Piney Flats. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Robert Wolfe, Sr. and Elizabeth Wexler 'Bess'? Wolfe. In addition to her parents; one brother, Samuel Robert Wolfe, Jr.; one sister, Nelle Wolfe Starnes; and one niece, Hildred Carolyn Wolfe also preceded her in death. Ms. Wolfe attended Mary Hughes High School in Piney Flats where she was a member of the 1936 Womens State Championship Basketball Team. She received a BS degree from East Tennessee State College and a Masters degree from Columbia University where she also did her doctorial work. In her career as a college professor, she spent 25 years at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. While there, she served in several leadership capacities at both the state and national levels. Survivors include one nephew, John Starnes and his wife Patsy of Piney Flats; five nieces, Mary Ann Hager and her husband James of Piney Flats; Betty Muse and her husband John of Boones Creek; Connie Landreth and her husband John of Piney Flats; Winifred Quaintance and her husband John of Jonesborough; Martha Johnson of Knoxville; and several great nieces and nephews. The family graveside service for Ms. Hildred Wexler Wolfe will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in the Shell Cemetery, Piney Flats with Rev. Scott Brady and Rev. Mack Houston officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Piney Flats United Methodist Church Tower Restoration, 225 Methodist Church Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686.
