Horace Blount, Jr.

Horace 'Phil'? Blount, Jr., 87, of Johnson City died Tuesday evening, April 1, 2008 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Blount was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Horace Phil 'Doc'? Blount, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Henritz Blount. Mr. Blount retired from the Veterans Administration at Mountain Home in 1979 where he served for thirty-five years as a Medical Administrative Assistant. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the European Theater and was the recipient of a Purple Heart . Mr. Blount was a member and former deacon of the Clark Street Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, James C. Blount. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Viola Huff Blount of the home; a daughter, Teresa Kim and her husband Nicholas Laviditis of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Alisa Laviditis of Johnson City; one grandson, John Laviditis of Johnson City; a special friend, Helen Terilee Peavler of Jonesborough ; several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside funeral service for Horace 'Phil'? Blount will be conducted at 3 PM, Friday, April 4, 2008 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Mr. Sam Grogg and Rev. Willie Lunceford will officiate. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker on Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 PM prior to the service. A procession will then go to the cemetery. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Clark Street Baptist Church, 200 Clark Street, Johnson City, TN 37604
