Hortentia Phillips McCoy, 82, of 410 East Grand Avenue Extension, Johnson City, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson City a daughter of the late Willard O. and Mae Hughes Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Haskell H. McCoy in 2005. Hortentia was a former telephone operator for 42 years; she had begun working for the Intermountain Phone Company. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include: her brother and sister-in-law, William C. and Sue Phillips of Johnson City; a sister, Kathleen Minga of Johnson City; a sister-in-law, Lucille Jones of Bristol; a special nephew, Jeff Phillips and his wife Robyn of Johnson City; a special niece, Kathy Parrott and her husband Mike of Johnson City; a niece, Nancy Williamson and her husband Brice of Lake City, South Carolina; special great nieces and nephews, Madison and Morgan Phillips, William and Mitchell Parrott and Lauren and Evan Williamson. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2008 in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. John Bardsley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at two. A committal service will be conducted in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens following the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be: her cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be: her friends and neighbors. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the Holston Home for Children, 404 Holston Drive, Greeneville, TN 37743.
