Howard M. Hankla, age 97 of Limestone, Tennessee passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024. He was born in Marion, VA on February 22, 1927. He retired from Gordon Furniture Company after 40 years of service, after his retirement he enjoyed a second career at Winn-Dixie in Elizabethton for over 10 years. Howard was a member of Shenandoah Presbyterian Church until he could no longer attend.
Howard never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face, and he always saw the best in everyone. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Eula Cophanever Hankla, wife of 63 years, Mary Hankla, daughter, Pamela Mae Brown, grandson, Daniel Shane Hankla, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, son-in-law, Bruce D. Jones, and daughter-in-law, Peggy Hankla.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis E. Jones, son, Curtis Hankla; granddaughters, Moncia Smith and Barbie Jones, and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 11am until 1pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm in Washington County Memory Gardens following the visitation. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone at The Four Oaks Nursing Home for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
