Hubert Lawrence Toney, age 81, died on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He was born on December 28, 1928 in Knox County, Tennessee to the late William Wilbur Toney and Mabel Roberts Toney. He was a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church were he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a Masonic member as a 32nd degree. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Charlene P. Toney; two sisters, Evelyn Creed, and his twin sister, Mary Edens; and one brother, Claude 'Buddy'? Toney. Mr. Toney is survived by his wife, Viola Mashburn Toney; two daughters, Paulette Hash and husband Bobby of Johnson City, Thresia Lukianoff and friend Kenneth Dawson of Johnson City; one son, Jerry W. Toney of Johnson City; two step sons, Larry Mashburn and friend Kathy McMillion of Georgia, and Randy Mashburn and wife Jenny of Johnson City; three sister-in-laws, Mary Ruth Toney, Ruth Thompson, and Mary Evelyn Humphreys; one brother-in-law, Paul Thompson; five grandchildren, Chris Sheets, Brian Allen Sheets and wife Ambria, Jon-Michael Lukianoff and fiancé Mary Smith, Steven L. Toney and wife Tonya, Brian S. Toney; eight great grandchildren, Noah Sheets, Brennona Sheets, Aahlea Sheets, Jake Toney, Zackery Toney, Jordan Miller, Nicholas Sheets, Scotty Sheets; three step grandchildren, Chad Mashburn, Kelly Mashburn and friend Cheryle, Kim Watrous and husband Allen; three step great grandchildren, Megan Watrous, Ben Watrous and Brandon Mashburn; a special niece, Delores Britt and husband Mike of Elizabethton; two great nephews, Matthew Britt and friend Norma Brackins, and Mikey Britt and wife Charli of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Sunday evening, August 8, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Toney will follow at 8pm with Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Music will be under the direction of Edna Vance. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11am in the Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City, TN. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Monday morning at 10:20am. Pallbearers will be Mr. Toneys grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Westerly Heights Baptist Church, Harold Carver and Cecil Correll. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Westerly Heights Baptist Church, 628 North Center Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
