Hugh E. Sluder, Sr.

March 18, 1928 — November 3, 2007

Hugh E. Sluder, Sr, 79, of 163 Lakeview Lane, Gray, TN died Saturday, November 3, 2007 in the James H. Quillen VAMC at Mountain Home. Mr. Sluder was a native of Greene County and was a son of the late William Lee and Kathleen Elizabeth Neal Sluder. He was a retired Supervisor of Operations with Piedmont Airlines and US Air. Mr. Sluder was a Charter Member of the Boones Creek Ruritan Club, and a member of the East Tennessee Walking Horse Association. He was also a member of the Sinking Creek Lodge # 575 F and AM, the Jericho Shrine Temple and the Eastern Star. Mr. Sluder was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by : his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Stewart Sluder; his second wife, Doris Jean Temple Sluder; a sister, Nancy Bell Droke; a brother, Charles Austin Sluder. Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Rumbley Sluder of the home; a son and daughter-ilaw, Eddie and Tammy Sluder of Jonesborough; three daughters, Sylvia Lewis of Jonesborough, Susan Lamson of Gray and Sandy and her husband Kurt Carty of Gray; seven grandchildren, Braxton Sluder, Garrett Sluder, Matthew Lewis, Corey Lamson, Whitney Lamson, Kirby Carty and Adam Carty; one great grandson, Aiden Riner; three brothers and wives, Bill and Carlene Sluder of Johnson City, Bob Lewis and Sandy Sluder of Piney Flats, and Dwight Sluder of Piney Flats;one sister, Evelyn Johnson of Johnson City; one sister-in-law, Danalee Sluder of New Mexico;several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Hugh E. Sluder, Sr. will be conducted at 8 PM Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Reece Harris and Mr. Clint Andrews will officiate. Music will be by Adam Carty, pianist. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 10:30 AM Wednesday to go in procession. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Shane Riner and Larry Crouch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Friday, Jimmy Starr, John Glaze, Jim Crouch and Joe Sluss. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday prior to the service.
