Hugh Riley 'H.R.' Tackett, 74, Bluff City, passed away February 16, 2018 under hospice care at his family home. He was born November 20, 1943 in Charleston, WV to the late Ivah (Clay) and Earl M. Tackett. Hugh grew up in a small town in West Virginia with his younger sister, Earline, and they attended St. Albans schools together. He married his high school sweetheart, Brenda I. (Davis) Tackett in 1963. Hugh attended Columbia Technical College in Washington, DC where he studied drafting and went on to work for 56 years in the cabinet industry. Once married, Hugh and Brenda went on to raise three children: Natalie, Derek, and Andrew. The family lived first in the Washington, D.C./Maryland area, then Florida, and finally settled in Tennessee where they designed and built a beautiful home at the base of the Holston Mountain Range. Hugh was a lover of architecture, design, and engineering. To this end, these loves crossed over into his passion for cars, their beautiful lines, and of course, speed. On the many late nights he spent in his Garaj Mahal wrenching or detailing one of his beloved cars, he was also surrounded by his fondness for music. He adored his stereo equipment, Bose radio, and his 'Easy Listening' channels to no end. It was also common to see him enjoying a very strong cup of tea many times a day. Hugh is survived by: his wife, Brenda; his children; his sister, Earline Bacchus, and her husband Bob; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, and various aunts and uncles. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the hospice nurses and staff who so graciously and kindly cared for our husband, father, and brother. The family of Hugh Tackett will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 20th at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. The committal service will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, February 22nd in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV with Celebrant H.R. Whittington officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery for those services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Appalachian Service Project, 4523 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
