Iona Mae Gregg

Iona “Onie” Mae Gregg, 88, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at The Life Care Center of Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Iona was born into the loving arms of her mother Ola Mae Durham in 1935 in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Iona met and married the love of her life, Rev. J. B. Gregg, and together they made their house a home in their 45 years of marriage.

She attended Gregg’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Jonesborough.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Rev. J. B. Gregg; son, Lester Gregg; son, J. B. Gregg Jr., and her mother, Ola Durham.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of Iona include: son, Billy Gregg; daughter, Brenda Peters; granddaughters, Jennifer Gregg and Angela Phillips; great-grandson, Hunter Johnson; great-granddaughters, Haley Messer and Makena Phillips; great-great-grandchildren, Luka Johnson, Kayde Martin, and Silas Martin; brother, Donald Dykes; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 7:00 PM. A committal service will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 30, 2023. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.

Rev. Charlie Byrd will be officiating the services. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Sam Miller, Sam Masengill, Junior Light, Dewey Hashbarger, Dee Hubbard, Don Hubbard, and Hunter Johnson.

A very special “thank you” is offered to those who have taken such great care of Iona. The family would like to thank Megan, Jerry, and Chris with Amedisys Hospice and Ariel, Kitty, and Megan with Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
