Isaac "Jent" Whitaker

Isaac Jentery “Jent" Whitaker 90, died at the Community Living Center of the James H. Quillen VAMC, Mountain Home, Tennessee on February 4, 2020.

Born December 1, 1929 in Sullivan County, Jent was preceded in death by: his parents, Ruffus B. Whitaker II and Annie Mae Jones Whitaker; his wife, Maxie Pauline Weatherly Whitaker; one son, Michael Lee Whitaker; and brother, Fred Thomas Whitaker.

He is survived by: one son, Timothy Wayne Whitaker of Piney Flats; grandsons, Timothy and Isaac; one sister, Florence Whitaker McCray and husband Richard; half-sister, Nell Hodges Bright of Godfrey, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Jent was a farmer and lived most of his life on his farm in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He served his country as a Sergeant, Company M, 23rd Infantry Regiment in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was wounded in battle where he was hit by shrapnel in his spine. He received several citations for his actions in the Korean War. Some years ago, the Veterans Administration Hospital finally removed the shrapnel from his back. Jent survived the surgery and after rehabilitation, he was able to ride a horse again.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Mountain Home Community Living Center employees, as well as the honorary group of veterans who stood watch beside him until his passing.
A grave side service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at New Bethel Cemetery in Piney Flats, officiated by a Chaplain from the Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers or other considerations, contributions may be made to the Whitaker Family’s Funeral Expenses, 603 Ridgeview Dr, Johnson City, TN 37604.
