Isaac “Ike” Creed Jones, of Johnson City, TN passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14,
2024, at the age of 100.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice “Necy” Florence Jones,
his parents, Jackson Nathaniel and Mary Margaret, and his 8 sisters: Christie, Ruby, Dorothy,
Katherine, Jackie, Margaret, and Mildred. He is survived by his 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 3
great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
Ike was born in Critz, Virginia on January 22, 1924. After he turned 19 in 1943, he joined the
United States Navy where he served as a radioman during World War II until 1946. In 1947 he
met his wife Necy in Dover, New Hampshire and they married on December 20th later that year.
They were together almost 70 years until her passing in 2017. Ike and Necy settled in Michigan
and after graduating from the Detroit Business Institute in 1948, he worked for the Detroit News
for over 30 years.
During his free time, you could find him in his garden, or at the racetrack. He
was even part of a bowling league and played in many tournaments. Not only did he enjoy
bowling he was also a lifelong member of the Lincoln Park Moose Lodge #1665. Ike was a huge
baseball fan too and considered himself a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed going to Astro
games with his daughters Dianna and Peggy. He had a sharp sense of humor and always
spoke his mind. You could rarely find a dull moment in his presence.
Isaac will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Riverview Cemetery in Big Stone
Gap, VA.
