J. W. Barnes, age 91, of 3017 Newton Street, Johnson City, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Lakebridge Healthcare in Johnson City. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, the son of the late William Henry Barnes and the late Clara Daniels Barnes. Mr. Barnes was an employee of Sears for 23 years and from 1965 until 2000 was self-employed with Barnes Appliance Repair. Mr. Barnes was a member of East Unaka Christian Church where he served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Smith Barnes, a brother, Paul Barnes and three sisters, Mary Rowe, Lula Swift and Ruby Brown. Mr. Barnes is survived by three daughters, Nancy B. Kincheloe and her husband Carl, Vickey B. Broyles and her husband Roger, both of Jonesborough, Mellanie B. Denton and her husband Kim; two sons, John W. Barnes, II and his wife Doris and Joe Barnes and his wife Annie all of Johnson City; one brother, George Barnes and his wife Lola of Baltimore, Maryland; a sister, Billie Hawkins of Johnson City; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grand children and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Dr. Wayne Emery will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Graveside services and burial will be at Monte Vista Memorial Park on Monday at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Perry and grandsons, Michael Broyles, Justin Pritchard, Gary Stone, Berry Coggins, Nathan Denton, Matt Mooney and Shannon Chase. Honorary pallbearers are Arthus Denton, John Tipton and Carson Estep.
