Jack Douglas Hodges (born January 12, 1933), 657 Cherokee Mountain Road, Jonesborough, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his residence. Since 1955, Mr. Hodges had practiced general civic law as a sole practitioner in Johnson City. He was a member and past-president of the Washington County/Johnson City Bar Association. He is the son of the late Robert Lovel Hodges, Sr., (born May 13, 1899, Bristol) and Pinkie Catherine Lay (born Nov. 15, 1902, Nickelsville, Va.). In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Hodges, Jr., who passed away in 2009. He entered East Tennessee State College Training School as a first-grade student and graduated from high school there, and went on to East Tennessee State College (now ETSU) where he graduated in 1953. He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1955 and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar Association on Aug. 2 of that year. From 1969-79, Mr. Hodges served on the Washington County Court and was a charter member of the Metropolitan Kiwanis Club, as well as a former board member of the Crumley House. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and St. Pauls Episcopal Church. Mr. Hodges raised purebred Arabian horses and had shown them through the South East in halter and English and Western pleasure classes. He owned and showed 'Largo', a Reserve Champion Tennessee Western Pleasure Horse. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert L. Hodges, Jr.; two nephews, Robert L. Hodges III and Joseph W. Hodges and a niece, Mrs. Charles O. Gordon, Jr., all of Johnson City; and two grand-nephews and one grand-niece. The family of Jack Hodges will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Hal Hutchison will officiate. Pallbearers will be Don Arnold, Charles Steagall, Jerry Harkleroad, James R. Hunter, Harry Harman, Jack Cox, Bob DeVane, and Cliff Corker. Honorary pallbearers will be Frederick Brandt and members of the Washington County/Johnson City Bar Association. Following the funeral service, family and friends will proceed to Monte Vista Burial Park for committal services. The family extends special thanks to Karen Patton, his legal assistant, his caregivers, and Dr. Thomas C. Perry and his staff.
