Jakie Roy Starnes, 81, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a graduate from Boones Creek High School and Steed Community College. He was the son of the late James and Jessie Phipps Starnes.
Jake was a happy, strong, hardworking man, always providing for his family. A man filled with a sweet, kind, and loving soul. Known as Uncle Jake, Papaw, and then as “Pop” by all. He was full of life spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed many hobbies, golf being his favorite; he was a very talented golfer and spent many hours playing with friends.
He taught us kids how to play sports, work hard, be tough, enjoy the outdoors, and how to laugh, play and have fun. His sense of humor and his smile always made us laugh! He had a soft spot in his heart for animals and taught us how to love and care for them. His sweet puppy, “Tippy”, loved him too and will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy “Susie” Starnes; and one brother-in-law, Lewis Barnes and his wife Doris.
Survivors include: daughters, Julie Smith (Leo) and Janet Presnell (Randy); granddaughters, Kayla Jones (Ryan) and Kassidy Parmer (Logan); great-granddaughter Harper Parmer; sister, Nonie Keyes (Mike); brothers, Jim Starnes (Shirley) and Rick Starnes (Susie).
Jake was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, papaw, and friend. He is rejoicing in Heaven now with his wife and the love of his life, Susie! You made this world a better place. Enjoy your party in Heaven! We love you.
