James Alfred Oliver, Sr., 85, Piney Flats, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center. Mr. Oliver was a native and lifelong resident of Piney Flats and a son of the late Robert Lee and Vona Mae Jeter Oliver. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Okinawa during the Korean War. Mr. Oliver retired from Summers Hardware after 47 years of service. He was an active member of Edgefield United Methodist Church, Piney Flats. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three sisters and their husbands, Louise and John Martin, Geraline and Joe Brummit, and Lula Belle and Earl Hammer; a brother and his wife, Robert Aaron and Kathryn Oliver; two brothers, John I. and George R. Oliver; and brother-in-law, Wayne Gray. Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Pauline Feathers Oliver of the home; son, James A. Oliver, Jr. of Johnson City; sister, Carolyn Gray of Jonesborough; two sisters-in-law, Olivene Oliver of Piney Flats and Karen Oliver of Palm Bay, FL; special brother-in-law, Mike Feathers of Boones Creek; special sister-in-law, Susie Feathers of Piney Flats; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for James Alfred Oliver, Sr. will be conducted 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rudesill officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the Oliver residence. Family and friends are asked to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:30 am Wednesday to go in procession to Edgefield Cemetery for 11:00 am graveside services.
