James ?Jim' Andrew Flowers, Jr., 79, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Sat., Dec. 5, 2015. Jim was a life long resident of Johnson City and Jonesborough, TN. He was a son of the late James A. Flowers, Sr. and Pauline Rebecca Chatman Flowers. He was a 1956 graduate of Science Hill High School. Further education included Criminal Investigation and Law Enforcement Training at the TN Law Enforcement Training Academy in Donelson, TN. Jim was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Johnson City. He was a Sergeant and lifetime member of the Johnson City Rescue Squad with 27 years of volunteer service. He was named 'Squadman of the Year' in 1978. Jim was trained in Emergency Medical Service, Accident Investigation, and Basic Firemanship. He was on the National Register of Emergency Medical Technicians. Jims employment included 17 years as a Spinner at Klopman Mills. He was a Sergeant in the ETSU Police Dept. for 7 years, where he received multiple commendations as a police officer. He spent 12 years with Murray Guard at Nuclear Fuels Service as an Armed Security Guard. He also worked for 2 years for the Johnson City/Washington Co. Emergency Medical Ambulance Services. Jim loved his children and grandchildren and loved to amuse them with jokes and riddles. In his younger years, he played the piano and was artistic in drawing, especially portraits. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in church. He was passionate about his service in the Rescue Squad. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant son, James Andrew Flowers, III; his first wife, Katherine Stevens Flowers (married 27 years); June Brown Flowers (married 7 years); step-son, Robert Lynn Whaley; and his brother, John David Flowers, who died on Nov. 26, 2015. Survivors include: his wife of 11 years, Dora Whaley Flowers; daughters, Debbie Flowers Blackburn and husband Jeff and Ruth Flowers Chapman and husband Brian; one son, Mark Allen Flowers, Sr.; step children, Tim Whaley and wife Lisa, Deanna Bowlin, Mike Whaley and wife Debbie, and Tori Whaley (wife of the late Lynn Whaley); one brother, Bill Flowers and wife Pauline; two sisters, Verna Flowers Garst and husband Jim and Mary Flowers Anglin; grandchildren, Dessi Gibson Foster and husband Josh, Meredith Blackburn Berg and husband Nick, Steven Blackburn and wife Allison, Mark Flowers, Jr., Sarah Blackburn Smith and husband Jake, and Amber Gibson Hensley and husband Trey; step grandchildren, Josh Bowlin, Robert Bowlin and wife Andrea, Ginny Whaley, Mary Whaley, Robert Whaley and wife Lael of TX, Amy Taylor and fianc? Terry McKnight, Jesse Whaley, and Julie Bradshaw of MI; great grandchildren, Sierra Ann Ford, (Jeffrey) Finn Blackburn, Johnnie June Blackburn, Willa Beatrice Blackburn, and Emmalyn Ruth Hensley, born on Nov. 28, 2015; several step great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family of Jim Flowers will receive friends from 4 pm to 6 pm Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2343 Knob Creek Rd., Johnson City. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6 pm Friday under the direction of Pastor Jim Chatman and Rev. Frank Proffitt. The committal service is scheduled for 10 am Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 9:30 am Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
