James "Jim Bob" Robert Brown, aged 59, passed away in Johnson City after a long battle with cancer on October 26th, 2024. Born on July 10, 1965, James dedicated 30 years of his life to teaching and coaching at Science Hill High School, profoundly impacting the lives of many students and players. Although he led high school teams all the way to state championships, his favorite coaching role came when coaching his own sons in Little League.
James was a lifelong learner and educator, having graduated from Happy Valley High School before earning degrees from East Tennessee State University and Lincoln Memorial University. Beyond the classroom, he nurtured a love for the outdoors, often tending to his land or exploring new places. He was a dedicated fan of the University of Tennessee athletics, holding season tickets for football throughout his life.
His passion for history was evident in both his studies and his teaching. Although he loved the mountains he called home, James was an avid lover of the beach, spending weeks every summer in Daytona Beach with his family.
He leaves behind sons, Logan and Landon Brown, his wife, Nicole Willocks Brown, step-children Hannah, Madalyn, and Lucas Kelley, and his brother Douglas Todd Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joanna and James Brown.
A Celebration of Jim Bob's life will be announced in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Science Hill High School Athletics.
