James Harold Carver, better known as Jim, 90, of Johnson City passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Lakebridge Healthcare Center surrounded by family.
He was born the son of Charles Lee Carver and Naomi Bradford of Dry Creek, WV in 1933. He married Loretta Sue Gunnoe on September 24, 1955, and briefly worked for General Motors in Flint, MI. He settled in Johnson City, TN where he was the long-time owner/operator of the North Roan Street Dairy Queen. He was truly appreciative of all the employees, business associates, and customers that contributed to his success.
His favorite hobby was gardening, where the prized green beans and tomatoes he grew were a family favorite. He enjoyed spending time with his family. When his quiet demeanor was on occasion broken by his spoken words, everyone would "tune in" to feed upon his wisdom. He was a compassionate person, who routinely viewed the world through the eyes of others. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Pratt and Ruth Issacs, and his brothers, Bill Carver, Ted Carver, and Joe Carver.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 69 years, Loretta; his three sons, David (Lisa), Randall (Jeanne) and Mark (Tootie); eight grandchildren, Kelli, Matthew, Chris, Alex, Jennifer, Amy, Ben and Bayleigh; twelve great-grandchildren; and his brothers, John Carver and Tom Carver, along with numerous beloved in-laws.
The family would like to give special thanks to the employees of Lakebridge, Visiting Angels, and the employees of Amedisys Hospice Care. It has truly been an uplifting experience to have met and worked with the many people who genuinely care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, beginning at 6:00pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 7:00pm, with Rev. James Cambron officiating.
The Committal service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 1:00pm, in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, Johnson City, in his honor.
