James Dempsey Jimmy Lipps

December 5, 1939 — April 27, 2014

James 'Jimmy'? Lipps, 74, of Piney Flats passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his residence in Piney Flats with his wife and daughter present. He was a native of Washington County and son of the late Onlest Earnest and Lou Texie Ledford Lipps. Jimmy was a truck driver for many years. He began his career with ETW&C Trucking and retired from Yellow Freight Trucking Company. He was of Methodist faith and was a member of the Edgefield United Methodist Church in Piney Flats, Tennessee. He was currently attending Victory Fellowship of East Tennessee Church in Bluff City, Tennessee. Jimmy was a patriotic man serving his country in the United States Army Reserves. Jimmy played Santa Claus for many years for many families, churches and businesses. He was also known as 'Poppa'? to all his adopted grandchildren, extended family and many friends. He loved camping, people and his greatest love of all was Southern Gospel Music. In addition to his parents, son William Ted Lipps , preceded him in death. Survivors include: beloved wife of 40 years, Doris Jean 'Mama'? Lipps of the home in Piney Flats, Tennessee; cherished daughter, Shirley Marie 'John'? Warren and husband Randy of Bristol, Tennessee; three brothers, Charles Edward 'Eddie'? Lipps of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Howard Douglas 'Doug'? and wife Margaret Lipps of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Earnest Stephen 'Pete'? Lipps of Colonial Heights, Tennessee; two step grandchildren, Derrick Warren and Jennifer and husband Nick Britt; one step great grandchild, Trenton Moore; four adopted grandchildren, Justin Mullins, Travis Mullins, Heather Kaylor and Chris Adams; special friends, Jerry and Sherry Smalling of Hampton, Tennessee, Bob Brown of Bluff City, Tennessee, Lisa Taylor of Bristol, Tennessee, and the owner, employees and 'eating buddies'? of the Bluff City Diner; very special friend, Kathy Chapman of Piney Flats, Tennessee; and beloved dog, Oscar. Special 'Thank You'? to: Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton, Jimmy and Jama Frazier and girls, Blue Ridge Family Medicine, Dr. Brian Way and his staff (especially Megan and Kim), Dr. Goenka, Dr. Kahn, and Dr. Hodge.
