Mr. James Edgar Carder, age 89, of Johnson City, passed away December 11, 2012, in the James H Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Carder was a native of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Thomas Carder and Mary Greer Carder. In addition to his parents,four sisters, Hazel Hall, Joann Carder, Virginia Cox and Lillian Stevens; three brothers, Glenn Carder, Paul Carder and Billy Carder; one son-in-law, Grant Gregg; daughter-in-law, Donna M. Carder; one great granddaughter, Elaina Mitchell also preceded him in death. Mr. Carder was a WWII veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the 5th Army, 34th Infantry serving in the North Africa, Sicily, and Italy theatre. He reached the rank of Corporal. He was a life member of DAV. He retired as a dispatcher for the Pepsi Plant in Johnson City. He was a member of the Third Christian Church. Mr. Carders hobbies and interests included Atlanta Braves baseball, Johnson City Cardinals, playing horseshoes and cards, and spending special times with family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of seventy-two years, Ruth L. Carder of the home; one son, Joseph Carder and his wife Jamie of Kingsport; two daughters, Rose Gregg of Johnson City and Rita Tucker and her husband Jesse of Gray; two brothers, Jack Carder and his wife Gudrun of Johnson City and Wayne Carder of Nevada; seven grandchildren, Johnny Gregg and his wife Shannon, Teresa Shaw and her husband Stewart, Lisa Mitchell Aldridge and her husband Randy, Monica Mitchell, Tara Gregg Crouch and her husband Steve, Laura Blake and her husband Doug and Leslie Judson and her husband Justin; five great grandchildren, Grant Gregg, Summer Shaw Vittatoe, Brandon Shaw, Erin Blake and Davis Blake; three great-great grandchildren, Tayleigh Vittatoe, Nevaeh Vittatoe and Keedyn Vittatoe; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the James H. Quillen Medical Center and the doctors and nurses, Lakebridge Healthcare, special friends Debbie Tesneary and Debbie Morton, Linda and Hugh Light, special sweet heart Debra Greathouse, VA nurse John Lester, home health care nurse Shannon Smith and nephew Jeff Light. The funeral service for James Edgar Carder will be conducted at 8 PM Sunday December 16, 2012, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Bro. Roy Tucker and Chaplain Victor Tucker will officiate. Jesse Tucker will provide the Eulogy. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Monday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the Honor Guard. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 AM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday prior to the service.
