James Edgar Gambrell

James 'Jim'? Edgar Gambrell, age 62, of Johnson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Gambrell was born on May 1, 1948 in Laurens, South Carolina, a son of the late Edgar and Sarah Gambrell. He was retired from Michelin Tire Company in Greenville, South Carolina as well as Douglas Dynamics, in Johnson City. Mr. Grambell married his soulmate Jane Hodge Gambrell on August 3, 1996. They shared a home and a loving relationship at 1320 Oxford Place, Johnson City. He was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Gambrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a kind man that enjoyed life. He loved to play golf and was a very talented artist and woodworker. Mr. Gambrell was always willing to give a helping hand to his family and neighbors. He was a blessing to everyone he knew and he will be missed. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gambrell was preceded in death by a loving sister-in-law, Sharron Hodge Feathers, father-in-law, Niles Hodge, and a wonderful friend, Butch Langford, of Greeneville, South Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Hodge Gambrell; one son, Jimmy Gambrell, of Norfolk, VA; one daughter, Sandra Loomis and husband Sheldon, of Johnson City, TN; one step son, Junior Little and wife Emilee, of Gray, TN; one brother, Tom Gambrell and wife Linda, of Daleville,Virginia; seven grandchildren, Allison, Justin and Rachel Gambrell, of Kingsport, TN, Ashley Edens and husband Josh, of Telford, TN, Justin, Jordan and Caroline Little, of Gray, TN; one great granddaughter, Leah Faith Edens, of Telford, TN; one expected great grandchild; his special mother-in-law, Pauline Denny Hodge; four brother-in-laws, Fred Feathers, Lynn Hodge, Bill Hodge and wife Martha, and Manuel Dean Hodge and wife Trula; one sister-in-law, Kathy Hodge Oliver; and several aunts, uncles, special friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 16, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel with Rev. Roy Yelton and Rev. Josh Edens officiating. Music will be provided by Ashley Edens, Brian Ford and Johnny Painter. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday morning, February 17, 2011 in the Gray Cemetery with a spirits wings white dove release. Pallbearers will be Kirk Ritchings, Robbie Feathers, Justin Little, Jordan Little, Allen Moody, and Larry Wilcox. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Denny, Sheldon Loomis, Butch Langford, Josh Edens, Fred Feathers, Gabe Ritchings, Lynn Hodge, Manuel Dean Hodge, and Bill Hodge. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am Thursday morning.
