James Edward Selvo

November 5, 1923 — July 26, 2010

James Edward Selvo, age 86, 1611 Woodland Avenue, Johnson City, died Monday, July 26, 2010. He was a native of Hibbing, Minnesota who had lived in Johnson City for the last thirteen years. He was the youngest of ten children born to Katerina and Serifino Selvo. Mr. Selvo was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Following his service, he obtained his pilots license in California. When the Korean War began, he volunteered for service in the conflict. A veteran of 19 missions, he flew as a co-pilot on U.S. Air Force B-26 light bombers and was awarded the Air Medal. After the war, he was employed as a Field Representative for North American Aviation, where he was involved with NASA and the X-15 project at Edwards Air Force Base. Mr. Selvo was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Selvo is preceded in death by nine siblings. Survivors include: his wife, Vivian Watkins Selvo, of the home; three sons, Jim, David, and Wayne Selvo, all of California; daughter, Lynette Anderson, of the home; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Michael Cummins will officiate. Friends will be received at 6:15 PM in the gathering area. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 207 North Boone Street Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604 or Catholic Charities, 703 East Jackson Blvd, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
