James Edward Smith

James E. Smith, Jr. 93, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He was a native of Piney Flats, son of the late James E. and Anna Laura Feathers Smith. James was a minister of the Christian faith having served as pastor of First Christian Church in Sioux Falls, SD, Galesburg, IL and most of his career in the Midwest. He was a former member of the Kiwanis in Sioux Falls, SD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Hendrickson Smith; two brothers, Ernest and Leverne; two sisters, Dorothy and Gladys. Survivors include: his wife, Agnes Miller Smith of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Joan Smith of Birmingham, AL, Brian and Debbie Smith of Friendsville; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Loretta Smith of Piney Flats; three sisters, Louise High of Louisville, KY, Alice Young of Huntsville, AL and Beulah Baird of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Jason Smith, Rachel Kaiser and husband Greg, Kristen Smith and Logan Smith; two great grandchildren, Cotton and Lila Kaiser; a stepson and his wife, Tommy and Nan Miller of Colliersville; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Elinor and Bob Baker of Bluff City, Becky and Tim Richardson of Hampton; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. James Richter, Senior Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: Johnson Bible College, 7900 Johnson Dr., Knoxville, TN 37998. Mr. Smith had arranged to donate his body to Quillen College of Medicine and the family will inter appropriately when he is returned to them.
