James Henry Pilkington

October 2, 1926 — February 11, 2016

James Henry Pilkington, 89, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. James was a native of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Manly and Mary Jane Pilkington. James proudly served in the US Army for over 40 years. He loved bowling, and bowled at Holiday Lanes for many years. He also enjoyed gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, James Henry, Jr.; sister, Louise Lowe; brother, William Pilkington; and brother-in-law, William Eugene Leftwich. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Marian Leftwich Pilkington; four children, Stephan James Pilkington, Theresa Marian Herrick and her husband Richard Dean Herrick, John Carter Pilkington and his wife Lisa, and Robin Elizabeth Pilkington; eight grandchildren, Sheri Burns, William Herrick, Amber Hudson, Andrew Herrick, Sarah Loos, Caleb Herrick, Stephanie Herrick, and Katherine Tesch; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Geneva Bennett; brother-in-law, Patrick LaRue; special niece, Patricia Lowe; several other nieces and nephews; special bowling friends from Holiday Lanes; good friend, Tod Riddle; and his beloved dog, Big Boy. The family of James Pilkington will receive friends from 1 pm until 2 pm Monday, February 15, 2016 in Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 pm under the direction of Pastor Lon Tobin with special music by Sarah Loos. Family and friends will then proceed to Happy Valley Memorial Park for a 3 pm graveside service. The Boone Dam VFW Post 4933 will accord military honors. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Famoyin and his staff, and to the staff at 2300, especially Josh, for their compassionate care.
