James Howard Hensley, Jr

October 3, 1922 — December 27, 2005

James H. Hensley, Jr. 83 died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Hensley was an Erwin native and had lived in Johnson City since 1959. He was a son of the late James H. Hensley, Sr and Elizabeth Butner Hensley and was also preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and one sister. Mr. Hensley was a WW II US Army Air Force veteran. He was a former POW, a member of the Erwin Nine, the American Legion and a former member of the Civitan Club. He attended E. T. S. U. and Neon Engineering School in New York. Mr. Hensley was a member of the First Christian Church where he was a member of the Mr. And Mrs. Sunday School Class and a former deacon. He was the founder of Hensley Sign Company that later became Hensley/Snyder Sign Company. Survivors include his wife, of 58 years, Faye Phillips Hensley; one daughter, Becky Hensley, Johnson City; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A private funeral service for Mr. Hensley is scheduled. Friends may call at their convenience at any time Thursday after 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to James H. Quillen VAMC, Volunteer Services, Building 200, Mountain Home, TN 37684 of First Christian Church, 307 South Main Ave., Erwin, TN 37650.
