James 'Jim'? Lawrence Tester, 79, of 115 Bowers Street, Johnson City died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Tester was a native of Johnson County, TN and had lived in Johnson City most of his life. He was a son of the late J.S. and Fronia Tester. Mr. Tester was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church, the Watauga Lodge # 622 F and AM, and a Scottish Rite Jericho Shriner. Mr. Tester was retired from Tennessee Eastman as a control operator. He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Sawyer Tester in 2004, and by two sisters, Marie Dugger and Beatrice Watson. Survivors include: a daughter, Anita and her husband Keith Cook of Jonesborough; a niece Clara Saylor of Bluff City; grandchildren, Marcus Johnson, Cameron Cook, Caitlin Cook all of Jonesborough, Whitney Rose of Wartburg, TN, and Misty Harrison of Bessimer City, NC; special friends, Genevieve Hopper and Ginger Baker of Bristol, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for James 'Jim'? Lawrence Tester will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Reece Harris will officiate. A Masonic Service will be conducted following the funeral service. A service of Entombment will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the mausoleum at 10:55 AM Thursday. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Bennett, Mark Harris, Roy Patterson, Garnett Day, Paul Darnell, Vance Murray, Dennis Coffey, Vernon Saylor, Chip Harrison, Jerry Barnett, and Brown Pergoy. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 of Kingsport. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
