James M. King

September 18, 1934 — October 13, 2017

Mr. James M. King, 83, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Waters, in Johnson City. Mr. King grew up in Gatlinburg and had lived in Florida and Texas before retiring to Johnson City. He was the son of the late Mayford and Bess Trentham King. Mr. King graduated from East Tennessee State University. He was a U.S Air-Force veteran. In addition to his parents, one brother, Rev. Jerry King, preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Sonia King; two daughters, Theresa McCrosky and her husband Lary and Conchita Owenby; one sister, Reba Lowe and her husband Marion; sister-in-law, Gayle King; five grandchildren, Katie McCroskey, Garen McCroskey, Reed Johnson and his wife Amy, Haley Warner and her husband Josh, and Micah Johnson; two great grandchildren, Andrew Warner and Cali Warner; two nieces, Kristi Rogers and her husband Jim and Lisa Hinshaw and her husband Mark. The family of Mr. James M. King will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Sunday, October 15, 2017, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Dr. Tommy Hood officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
