Mr. James M. ?Mike' Snapp, 63, of Johnson City and Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, 5 December 2015. Mr. Snapp was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and Jonesborough, Tennessee. He was the son of Lurlia Bernice Snapp and the late Wendell Daniel Snapp. Mr. Snapp graduated from Science Hill High school in 1970 where he played basketball. He then attended East Tennessee State University, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Immediately he took a job teaching eighth grade and coaching basketball and baseball at Liberty Bell Junior High. After thirty-five years of service and impacting the lives of thousands of students, Mike retired from teaching and spent even more time enjoying his family and hobbies. Mike was known throughout the region as an outstanding softball player who began playing organized competitive softball with Clark Street Baptist Church, and ended decades of softball play by competing, and with his teammates on the Jonesborough Methodist team, winning the Class A Church World Championship Softball Tournament in 1989. Mike and his family attend Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of nearly 25 years, Lisa Robbin Swor; two daughters and one son, Christie Snapp Pohto, Lauren Elizabeth Snapp, and David Michael Snapp; one sister, Joann Snapp Cress; one brother, Wendell Daniel Snapp, Jr.(Deborah Spaller Snapp); two grandchildren, Jackson Pohto and Andrew Clawson; his father and mother-in-law, David and Doris Swor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gregory Michael Swor (Gray Bowen Swor); the late Jeffrey David Swor (Kerin Swor); Lee Anne Swor and son Ryker Swor, Brenda Lee Wix (Craig Phillip Wix) and several nieces and nephews: Shelley Mannering, Daniel Snapp, Alanna Swor, Beijah Swor, Cody Swor, Isaiah Swor, Elijah Swor, Jade Swor, Noah Swor, Troy Swor, Christine Noonan, Brandon Haenel, and Justin Formby. The family of Mr James M. ?Mike' Snapp will receive friends from 3:30 to 7 PM Friday, December 11, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:30 PM with Rev. Lenny Smith and Rev. Vincent M. Dial officiating. A private graveside service will be conducted on Saturday December 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mike Snapp ?No Excuses, Man!' Scholarship Fund created for Science Hill High School students who face adversity with a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and determination.
