James P Hughes

James P. Hughes, Jr., 75, of Johnson City, died Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Carter County, son of the late Pearson H. and Flora Whitson Hughes. James had been involved with many businesses over the years one being the Hughes Wholesale Florist. He was a member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the Lions Club in Laurens, South Carolina. In addition to his parents a brother, Ralph Hughes, preceded him in death. Survivors include: his wife, Phyllis Farmer Hughes of the home; a daughter, Teresa Hughes Stribling and her husband, Mark of Johnson City; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Betty Hughes of Chattanooga; a sister, Evelyn Shook of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Madison Stribling of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 29 2010 at 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. Reece Harris. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Todd Moody, Tim Moody, Johnny Farmer, George Campbell, Dayton Pierce and Mark Stribling. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Lyons, Allen Moody, Fred Milan, Hass Slemp, Charles 'Dean'? Von Cannon, Robert Hughes and Greg Austin. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 3101 Browns Mill Road, Suite 6, Johnson City, TN 37604 or to the Sinking Creek Baptist Church, 2313 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
