James R. Chatman, 82, Johnson City, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016. Mr. Chatman was a Washington County native, and son of the late James Frank and Mary Kate Carder Chatman. Mr. Chatman was a veteran and retiree of the Marine Corps and the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict as well as two tours of duty in Vietnam. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chatman was preceded in death by: his wife, Alice May Chatman; two sisters, Linda Toney and Mary Sue Edwards; and three brothers, Bill Chatman, Jack Chatman and Roy Chatman. Survivors include: one daughter, Sherry Lynn Hemphill; two sons, Mark Allen Chatman and John Paul Chatman; two sisters, Katherine Dye and Carolyn Culbertson; one brother, Tommy Chatman; seven grandchildren, Josh, Jamie, Chris, Casey, Jared, Jacob, and Jordan; and four great grandchildren, Jaxon, Marshall, Jessie, and Kaylynn. The family of James Chatman will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. James Cambron officiating. Pallbearers will be: Jared Z., Gage W., Josh C., Chris C., Daryl M., Gary H., Steven W., and Anthony V. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Friday to go in procession to Washington County Memory Gardens for 11:00 AM graveside services. Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 will be providing military honors.
