James R. ?Jim' Nolan, 89, of Johnson City, TN passed away, at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2015. He was born to Olive Ewing and Charles Nolan on September 27th, 1925 in Chicago Heights, IL. He served in the Army from Dec. 1943 to April 1946 during WWII in Company ?L', 271st, 69th Infantry Division. Longtime resident of Chicago, IL, he was very active in many civic and political causes and at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Chicago. His career lead him to various jobs and upon retiring as Chairman of the Board of Election Commissioners in Chicago, he moved to Johnson City in 2000. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Johnson City. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father John Grelck, sister Noralee Hampton and brother Robert Nolan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Josephine Szewczyk Nolan of the home, daughters Barbara Axon and husband Randall of Albany, MO, Kimberly Schneider of Johnson City and son, Timothy Nolan and wife Anne of Jonesborough along with ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and very special friend, Donna Chambers of Elizabethton, TN. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd, 3:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 PM Wednesday.
