James Thomas Laws

He fought the good fight, James Thomas Laws, 88, of Johnson City, died on Monday, May 24, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Elk Park, NC and a son of the late, James David and Sarah Elizabeth Owens Laws. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Frances P. Laws. Mr. Laws was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and was retired from the U. S. Navy with 23 years of service. He later worked and retired from the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Survivors include; two daughters, Marie Morin and her husband Raymond Morin, Sr., of Bluff City and Cynthia Masengill and her husband Kenneth of Johnson City; three Grandchildren, James Fisher, Mica Nichols and Kevin Masengill; three Great grand children, Rudolf, Valgar and Phinehas; two brothers, Lonnie Laws and Glen Laws both of Johnson City; one sister, Norma McKinney of Johnson City; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 26, 2011 from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Barry Burns will officiate. Burial services will be held at 11:00 am Friday from the Mt. Home National Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and leave in procession for the cemetery at 10:30 am. Family members will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday.
