James W. ?Bill' Whitman, 92, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Broadmore Senior Living in Johnson City. Mr. Whitman served in the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of World War II. Bill retired from a management position at ITT Corporation in Gray, Tennessee. He also served as past president of the Johnson City Chapter of the Lions Club. Bill loved gardening, fishing, boating, and following his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. He always treasured his time with family. His jokes were never ending. Bill is survived by: his loving wife of 74 years, Lorene Mitchell Whitman; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Wanda Whitman; daughter and son-in-law, Billie Jean and Jim Foster; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Karen Whitman; five grandsons; seven great grandchildren; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Mitchell Family. The family of James W. ?Bill' Whitman will receive friends from 12 pm to 1 pm Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm Wednesday with Pastor Jim W. Nipper officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the East Tennessee Cemetery, Blountville. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Alzheimers Association, 207 Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
