James Walter Rose

March 29, 1926 — August 1, 2009

James Walter Rose, 83, of Johnson City, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the North Side Hospital. He was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, son of the late John Willie and Alma Waggoner Rose. James was a retired District Engineer with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Army. James was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. He attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed flying as a private pilot. Survivors include: his wife, Sue E. Rose of the home; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Larry J. and Carol Rose of Elizabethton, Jerry W. and Debbie Rose of Gray; two grandchildren Gina Mello and her husband Bobby of Johnson City, II Lt. Jimmy Rose of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; special friends, Pansy and the late Don Messimer and family.A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. Jim Richter. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted following the funeral at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Appalachian Family Outreach, P. O. Box 285, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
