James Wycliffe Busch

James Wycliffe 'J.W.'? Busch, 96, of 117 Solomon Lane, Johnson City passed away Friday, April 18, 2008 at his residence. A native of Oak Glen, California he was the son of the late William and Sylvia McKinney Busch. Wycliffe dedicated his life to the service of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was ordained into the ministry in 1935 in Cumberland Heights, Tennessee. He graduated from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After graduating,he served as Minister at Englewood Church of Christ, Tennessee and then at Colton Church of Christ, California. In 1949, he began a twenty-year ministry at the Mar Vista Christian Church, Los Angeles. He served the next seventeen years as Associate Minister at West Seattle Christian Church, Seattle, WA and founded the Vashon Christian Church on Vashon Island, WA. In 1986 he retired and moved to Tennessee and served as Elder at Central Church of Christ, Johnson City for fifteen years. One of his most rewarding accomplishments was serving as Junior Camp Director for thirty-five years at the Angeles Crest Christian Camp in Los Angeles, CA and Pleasant Valley Christian Camp in Puyallup, WA. and was instrumental in providing new facilities at both camps. Wycliffe was a master carpenter, using his skills to build several buildings on the Johnson Bible College campus and building new facilities at the Mar Vista Christian Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling the United States with his family and friends. Wycliffe was a member of the Smokey Mountain Heartland Chapter of the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club, Model A Restorers Club, and East Tennessee Antique Engine Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Eunice Jane Street Busch in 2005; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Busch; one brother Wilfred Busch; and one sister, Sylvia Busch. Survivors include: two daughters, Leora Mae and husband Robert Hendrix and Julie Lynn Buck, all of Johnson City; grandchildren, Michael Hendrix and wife Ramona of Chattanooga, TN, Lisa Hendrix Edmondson and husband Todd of Irvington, KY, Justin Buck and wife Maria of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Solomon, Zephyr, and Sullivan Hendrix, and Ella Edmondson; one sister, Johanna Thompson, Depot Bay, OR; several special nephews and nieces in California and Oregon also survive. The funeral service for James Wycliffe Busch will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Central Church of Christ in the Central Community. Mr. Todd Wolfe will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hendrix-Range Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Thomason, Damon Edwards, Justin Buck, Michael Hendrix, Todd Edmondson, Dick Hendrix, Brian Talty, and David McKinney. The family will receive friends at the Central Church of Christ from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Sunday prior to the service.
