Jane Carter Clark, (Mrs. William H.) of Johnson City, passed away on June 9, 2012, at her residence, in the company of her children. She was born in Petersburg, VA to parents, Joseph Robert Carter and Sadie Smith Cousins Carter , she was 96. Mrs. Clark was educated in Virginia schools and graduated from Roanoke Rapids, NC Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. She is preceded in death by an infant son, husband, William Harrison Clark, two brothers; Dr. George Benjamin Carter, and Lt. Col. Joseph W. Carter, USAF Ret. Mrs. Clark was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church for more than fifty years. She was active in the Friendship class of the church and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and volunteered often for vacation bible school. She volunteered for about ten years at the Johnson City Medical Center Intensive Care waiting room through the Holston Baptist Association. With the Boy Scouts of America, Mrs. Clark served as a den mother for four years and for six years following lead workshops for den mothers. She was an active member of the Johnson City Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, serving in many offices over the years. She was also honored as an Honorary Division President of the Tennessee U.D.C. As a member of the John Sevier Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, she also held many offices during the years as member. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Colonists; Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century; Catherine Marbury Scott, Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century; Virginia Historical Society; Virginia Genealogical Society and Chesterfield County Historical Society and the Brinton Family Society. Mrs. Clark was a charter member of the Watauga Association of Genealogists. Mrs. Clark is survived by a son, William Harrison Clark, Jr. and wife Deborah, of Jefferson City, TN ; a daughter, Susan Dreher and husband, John , of Johnson City ; two grandsons, Kevin C. Dreher of Jacksonville, FL and Bryan W. Dreher and wife, Brittany, of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Jane Carter Clark will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Rebekah Fetzer will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Don Anderson, John Carter, Preston Carter, Bob Carter, John Dreher, Kevin Dreher, Bryan Dreher, John Andes and as honorary pallbearer, Carter Cogle. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM Wednesday prior to the service. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice CNA Teresa for her care and friendship given to Mrs. Clark during the past months.
