Jay Slomka, 72, of Jonesborough, passed away on March 11, 2020, at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Gilda Nowes Slomka; daughter Shari Slomka Hough and her husband Mathew; son, Seth Slomka; and grandchildren, twins Aiden Hough and Peyton Hough, age 10, and Kayla Slomka, age 9.
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, Jay moved to Connecticut to raise his family and retired to Tennessee to follow his passion for racecar driving and motorcycle riding.
He was a man who was as stubborn and opinionated as he was determined and truthful. He would always tell you what you needed to hear, not always what you wanted to hear, and wasn’t afraid to tell you the difference between the two.
Jay was a devoted husband and a wonderful father, as well as an adoring grandfather. His fun-loving personality won the love of anyone he spent time with. Even with an active lifestyle he never passed up a good nap in his recliner, and enjoyed snacking on anything he wasn’t supposed to be whenever Gilda turned her back.
The family of Jay Slomka will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home.
