J.C. Curd

Mr. J.C. Curd, age 88, of Watauga, passed away, Monday, September 12, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Curd was a native and lifelong resident of Watauga. He was the son of the late Wesley Cross Curd and Lola Humphries Curd. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Barron Curd; one daughter, Deborah Rudean Curd; three brothers, Roy Curd, Glen Curd, and Raymond Curd; one sister, Mildred Curd Phipps. Mr. Curd was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was in the 469th Anti-aircraft Artillery AW Battalion, 1943-1945. He participated in the following campaigns: Bismarck-Archipelago, New Guinea, New Britian, Southern Philippines, and on Red Beach in Leyte in the battle for the Luzan. Mr. Curd was superintendent for American Limestone Company in Watauga. He was a member of Lick Creek Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Survivors include: one daughter, Connie Curd Templeton and her husband Larry of Watauga; one brother, Bennie Curd and his wife Jane of Piney Flats; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. J.C. Curd will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rocky Maines, Minister and Roland Whittemore, Minister will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military rights. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Saturday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, Tn. 37601.
