Mrs. Jean S. Copeland, age 100, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 29, 2020 at her home following a lengthy illness
.
A native of Lenoir City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Lee M. and Elizabeth Scott.
She was a 1942 graduate of Tennessee Technological University where she was elected Tennessee Tech Sweetheart. Immediately upon graduation she moved to Johnson City to work in the East Tennessee State College Business Office where she remained until retirement in the early 1980s.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dr. T.P. Copeland in 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Rebecca Copeland, Johnson City; son, Mr. Scott Copeland and daughter-in-law, Sheree F. Copeland, League City, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of Central Baptist Church since 1942 and was a member of the Esther Sunday School Class.
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, a Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Music Ministry of Central Baptist Church (300 N. Roan St., Johnson City, TN 37601).
A special thanks is extended to her caregivers Ms. Deborah Tyree, Sylvonia Hickman, Betty Ford, Providence caregivers, and Amedysis Hospice as well as her longstanding physician Dr. Kenneth Olive, and her minister of many years, Dr. Ronald F. Murray. A special thanks as well to her honorary sons, Mr. Tony Martin, Mr. Tom Brooks, and Mr. Tim Fann.
