Jerry Dean Young

June 11, 1947 — January 6, 2022

Jerry Dean Young, age 74, of Hampton, Tennessee, died Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

Jerry was born June 11, 1947, to the late Louis Young and Anna Lee Rash Young. After graduating from Hampton High School, Jerry immediately enlisted in the Navy and was sent off to Chicago where he went on to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam. Jerry retired from the Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer after 27 years of service.

Jerry moved to South Carolina for a period of time, where he chartered fishing boats on Santee Cooper Lake. In addition to fishing, he loved his motorcycles, and enjoyed woodworking. He was also a talented mechanic who could fix anything.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Young. Sadly, Jerry’s wife, Darlene Guinn Young, died two days after Jerry.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Mary Castro, Mark Young, and Eleanor McCoy; grandchildren, Kristin Sutherland, Justin Young, Corey Turner, Chandra Morton, Amber Morton, Harry McCoy Jr., Serena, McCoy, and Lydia McCoy; great-grandchildren, Lily and Tyler Young, Kurt Turner, Kaelyn Washington, and Ellie and Colson McCoy; brother, Jim (and Albra) Young; and several nephews.

Service details are pending.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are directed to the funeral home to help offset expenses.
