Johnson City

Jerry Dean Lonon, Sr., Johnson City, passed away July 4, 2024 at the age of 79.

He was born November 4, 1944, in Marion, NC where many of his extended family and friends continue to call home.

 After completing his education with a Master’s Degree, Jerry pursued his love of coaching locally in the Johnson City area. He also owned and operated several small businesses. He gave countless volunteer hours to the Lions Club and was inducted into the Lions Club Hall of Fame with over 40 years of service, to include the Melvin Jones Award. Jerry was also involved with the Johnson City Parks and Recreation both in volunteer coaching and community service projects. There he was named a Volunteer of the Year and inducted onto their Wall of Fame in 2022.

 Jerry had a love for all sports, beginning as an athlete in his youth. He also enjoyed travel, time spent with friends, and trips with his Marion, NC Classmates.

 Survivors include his children Andrea M. Lonon and Louisa Taylor, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Lonon Sr. and mother Ruby M. Lonon; brothers “Jack” Lonon Sr. and “Jim” Lonon Jr.; son Jerry “Dean” Lonon Jr., and wife of 48 years Cabell Wilkes Lonon.

 A graveside service will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:00 am. The Reverend Laura Bryant will officiate. Friends and family are asked to gather by 9:50.

 In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lions Club of Johnson City or Johnson City Parks and Recreation.
