Jerry M. Wagner, 81, of Greer, SC, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 28, 2014. Mr. Wagner was a son of the late James Bert Wagner and Grace Landingham Wagner of Johnson City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Delma, H. Wagner, who died earlier this year and whom he missed very much; brother, James B. Wagner in 2010; and son, Jere M. Wagner II in 2009. Mr. Wagner grew up enjoying athletics. He played baseball and football through junior high and high school (SHHS Class of 1951). He joined the Navy his senior year of high school and served on the USS Coral Seas. Returning home, he married Beverly Lawson Wagner in 1958 with two children. He began a career with the Johnson City Planning Commission and was an active member of the Jaycees with honors while earning a bachelors degree in Industrial Arts from ETSU. The family moved to Greenville, SC in 1966 as he began work at Greenville County Planning Commission as a subdivision administrator. Later in the 1970s, he joined the Duran Corporation with Real Estate (Corporate) Development. He joined and was an active member of the Shriners Air Squadron. Later, he did other real estate and entrepreneurial work until retirement. Mr. Wagner loved the Piedmont area of South Carolina and remained there until his death. Survivors include: his daughter, Cynthia D. Wagner-Barker and her husband, Mark, of Jonesborough; daughter-in-law, Allyson Wagner; and three grandchildren, Olivia G. Wagner (20), Marshall C. Wagner (17), and Sarah J. Wagner (15), all of Dunwoody, GA; one paternal niece, Elizabeth M. Wagner-Crisp and her husband, Allen, of Knoxville; and sister-in-law, Nora Wagner, of Knoxville. The family of Mr. Jerry M. Wagner will receive friends from 1 pm until 2 pm Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday in the North Chapel. Pastor Dale Sutton will officiate. The committal will follow at 3 pm Saturday in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The US Navy will accord military honors. A celebration of life service will also be conducted at 11 am Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Overbrook Baptist Church, Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of service Saturday.
