Jerry W. Payne, Sr.

Mr. Jerry W. Payne, Sr. 73, of Johnson City, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at his residence. Mr. Payne was a Wise County, VA native. He was the son of the late Decoster and Zora Winebarger Payne. Mr. Payne worked as a coal miner for Crystal Coal Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one brother, Kester Payne; and five sisters, Laura Wiswell, Oma Hamilton, Gladys Salyers, Ola Reep, and Bell Couch. Survivors include: his wife of fifty-five years, Judy Fannon Payne; five daughters, Sandra Mabrey, Brenda Fink and her husband Carl, Rebecca Fink, Aleta Payne, Wendy Cross and her husband Doug; two sons, Jerry Payne, Jr. and his wife Teresa, and Brandon Payne; twelve grandchildren, Josh, Jason, Justin, Hunter, Albert, Cassandra, Matthew, Amanda, Samantha, Mattie, Lee, and Jordan; ten great grandchildren; and four sisters, Ula Richardson, Roxie Michell, Loreta Sutphin, and Clara Salyers. The family of Mr. Jerry W. Payne, Sr. will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at East Johnson City Church of God, 1403 E. Millard Street, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be: Carl Fink, Josh Roberts, Albert Fink, Brandon Payne, Jerry Payne, Jr., Matt McDougald, Chris Highben, and Hunter Markland.
