Jesse Herbert 'Herb' Wheelock Following a brief illness at Johnson City Medical Center, Herb Wheelock, age 66, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, October 7, 2014. Mr. Wheelock was a Washington County native and was the son of the late Wade Hampton Wheelock and Vivian Edwards Wheelock. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Douglas Wheelock. Mr. Wheelock was a man of great faith, and he lived that out on a daily basis. One of the ways he expressed his deep faith was through his faithful service to Grace Baptist Church where he had been a long-time member. He had served for many years as an active deacon and also the church treasurer. He also enjoyed singing in the choir. Most of all, he enjoyed coming to Grace to worship the Savior and Lord that he loved so much and to have sweet fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ. Herb was also a 'Family Man'! He loved spending time with his wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren. And oh the stories he could tell you about the times spent with his four brothers! He had said so many times how thankful he was for the blessing of his family. Herbs profession was in accounting and he took his work very seriously. But he also liked to have fun! He loved the simple things of life. He loved spending time with his dog Annabelle. He enjoyed pretty sunsets, ocean walks, and listening to his fifties music on the porch with Carolyn. He enjoyed sports, especially following THE VOLS! He loved to laugh and to be in on a good joke. Finally, anybody that really knew him knows, HE LOVED TO EAT! He always enjoyed the fellowship of being around others. He was a friend to all! He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Luttrell Wheelock of Johnson City, TN; 2 Sons, Casey Wheelock (Emma) of Waleska, GA and Michael Wheelock (Morgan Webb) of Johnson City, TN; 4 brothers, Danny Wheelock, Lakeland, FL, Argil Wheelock (Robin) of Chattanooga, TN, Joe Wheelock (Jane Michaels) of Palm Beach, FL, Randy Wheelock (Carol) of Johnson City, TN; 4 grandchildren, Caleb Wheelock, Lillian Wheelock, Christian Wheelock and Ethan Wheelock; 2 special sisters-in-law, Patty Morrow (Wayne) and Linda Frazer (Bill Jefferson) and special neighbors and friends, Kenny and Patti Crowder. Many nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Wheelock will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 612 Collins Drive, Johnson City, TN on Saturday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Pelham officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Following the funeral service, family and friends will go in procession to Harmony Cemetery for the graveside committal service. Pallbearers are: Danny Wheelock, Argil Wheelock, Joe Wheelock, Randy Wheelock, Casey Wheelock and Michael Wheelock.
