Mrs. Jewel D. Mayes, 76, 4108 Englewood West, Johnson City, passed away Saturday September 4, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Mayes was a native of Kingsport who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Amos Dennison and Mary Taylor Dennison. In addition to her parents one son, Anthony Wade Mayes; one daughter, Teresa Ann Archer; several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. Mrs. Mayes was a homemaker and was a member of the Boones Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include: her loving husband of fifty-six years, Chuck Mayes ; one daughter, Rachel Swoboda and her husband Butch of Johnson City; one son, Jeff Mayes and his wife Sonya of Lakeland, Florida; one brother, JW Dennison and his wife Colleen of Gray; one sister, Roe Wilhelm of Kingsport; one son-in-law, John Archer of Gray; two grandchildren, Josh Archer and Ashley Pelaez; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Jewel D. Mayes will be conducted at 2 PM Monday September 6, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. William H. Dingus will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 PM Monday prior to the service. The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Mrs. Mayes. And the American Cancer Society for their support during this very difficult time
