Jewell Christine Martin passed from this Earth into the arms of Jesus on October 1, 2019.
Jewell was called by many names - Billie, Mom, Mamaw, Mrs. Martin - and she was loved by many people. She was born on May 18, 1930 in Washington County, TN. She married John M. Martin on August 7, 1950 and together they raised three children, Patricia, Kathy, and Tim.
Jewell loved Jesus, her family, her neighbors, and her long-time church, Boones Creek Baptist Church. She was always generous to those in need and prayed daily for others.
John, a member of the US Air Force, Jewell, and their children lived in many places, including Washington, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina as well as Japan. The family settled back in East Tennessee in 1968 and lived there until 2017 when Jewell moved to Blacksburg, VA to be near family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on January 29, 2014.
She is survived by: her children, Patricia and husband John Mattox, Kathy and her husband Duane McIntyre, and Tim and his wife Faye Martin; her grandchildren, Erin and her husband Jonathan Couch, Chris Stinnett, Paul and his wife Belinda McIntyre, Andrea and her husband Matthew Pendleton, Elizabeth and her husband Dan Skidmore, Matthew and his wife Jessica Martin, and Hannah Martin; her great-grandchildren, Cara Couch, Adeline Stinnett, Chloe Couch, Kambry McIntyre, Abby McIntyre, Henry Pendleton, Trey Couch, Gwendolyn Skidmore, and Hunter Pendleton; her sister, Dorthy Toohey and husband Don; her brother, Tom Tilson and his wife Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Jewell Martin will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Morris-Baker. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jonathan Couch officiating. The committal service will immediately follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.
