James Howard ?Jim' Adams, 78, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 28, 2018, surrounded by nieces, nephews and friends. He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late John Thomas and Sophia Tester Adams. James was retired employee of General Shale Corporation after 41 years. He served his county during the early years of the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army. James was a member of the Watauga Flats Church of God. He loved to tell and retell stories to family and friends always getting their attention and made them laugh. In addition to his parents, his wife Evelyn Carr Adams (2006), three brothers, Billy Ray, John ?Bud' and Robert C. Adams; four sisters, Lennis Cipy, Lucille Starnes, Shirley Tester and Jean Ward all preceded him in death. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Morris ? Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm under the direction of Pastor Estel Williams. A committal service is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the Carr Family Cemetery at Watauga Flats. Active pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be: Buster Hodge, Tom Hodge and Robert Bowman.
