Mrs. Jo Bowlin Penix, of Watauga, passed away, July 22, 2012, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Mrs. Penix was a native of Greene County and had lived most of her life in the Piney Flats area. She was the daughter of the late William and Essie Thomason Bowlin. In addition to her parents, her husband of fifty-nine years, Buster T. Penix and several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Penix worked as a seamstress at several area companies including HIS, Watauga Apparel and Imperial Reading. She attended the River of Life Church. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Burrell, and her husband Al, of Watauga; one son, Michael Penix, and his wife Deb, of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Nathan Penix, and his wife Jennifer, of Kingsport and Danny Penix of Kingsport; two great grandchildren, Sharlotte Penix and Haydn Penix; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Jo Bowlin Penix will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Donnie Humphrey will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday in the Shell Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 AM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
